Growing up, I watched the reruns of the original The Addams Family, and then loved watching the '90s film and sequel, so I wasn't expecting the animated versions to be so great, but they really are!
With a fully star studded cast, Morticia Addams (Oscar-Winner Charlize Theron) and Gomez Adams (Oscar Isaac), the Addams parents are noticing that their kids, Wednesday and Pugsley, are pulling away from them and growing up. Their ghoulishly funny family dinners are now abbreviated with the interruption of "scream time." Wednesday is also consumed with creating an amazing invention for her science fair project. This storyline starts the journey (literally and figuratively) to find family happiness once again and to unmask a villain! With the whole family in tow, Morticia and Gomez plan a family vacation in their haunted camper, taking Wednesday (Chloë Grace Moretz), Pugsley (Javon 'Wanna' Walton), and Uncle Fester (Nick Kroll) along for the ride!
With Wednesday's invention a la Frankenstein, she has invented a way to transfer character attributes from one creature to another. Of course, Uncle Fester is apart of this experiment, which adds to the wackiness and history of the Addams Family. Wednesday's disappointment at receiving a participation prize for the science fair makes her happily accept the invitation to Cyrus Strange, a tech whiz, voiced by Bill Hader, leading into the Addams Family road trip.
Gomez Addams yearning to win back his daughter makes this storyline even more sweet. However, I did chuckle when Wednesday was said to be Cyrus's daughter. I mean it is pretty funny as Wednesday is already so disconnected and bored of the antics of the Addams family. Just like this haunted RV trip, this story takes twists and turns and connects with the kids and the parents.
The whole movie is sweet, funny, and trust me, your kids are going to love the film! The Addams Family 2 is also not a one and done film, my kids enjoy watching often, so this is definitely a great addition to your family movie library.
